Isaiah Stewart Joins the Memphis Grizzlies: A Fresh Start!
Isaiah Stewart, Traded to the Memphis Grizzlies
In a move that’s got basketball fans buzzing, the Memphis Grizzlies have beefed up their interior game by snagging none other than Isaiah Stewart. That’s right, folks! The Grizzlies, taking advantage of the Detroit Pistons’ need to lighten the financial load, have made a deal to bring the 25-year-old forward to Tennessee. They sent over three future second-round picks to Detroit. Talk about a swap!
What Does This Mean for Both Teams?
For the Pistons, trading Stewart allows them to clear his salary. Last season, Stewart averaged a solid 10 points, pulled down 5 rebounds, and blocked about 1.5 shots per game, proving to be an essential member of Detroit’s second unit. He even managed to snag the seventh spot in the voting for the Sixth Man of the Year award. Now that’s some serious talent!
But wait, there’s more! Stewart had stints during the playoffs where he really stepped up, especially when teammate Jalen Duren was struggling. However, the Pistons are clearing the way for Duren’s resurgence and future additions by letting Stewart go, especially with his hefty $15 million annual contract stretching until 2028. Ouch! Now Detroit will look towards Paul Reed as their backup center. Reed’s contract is way friendlier at $5.6 million this year and he had some standout moments in the playoffs.
A New Era in Memphis
For the Grizzlies, Stewart is not just any addition; he’s a key piece that adds depth to their frontline which they’ve already started reinforcing during the draft. Memphis picked Cameron Boozer at number 3 and Karim López at 21. Interestingly, López’s selection followed another trade with the Pistons, where Detroit climbed up to pick 17 to grab Ebuka Okorie, sending the Grizzlies three second-rounders in return— the exact same price they paid for Stewart!
This trade has opened the door for some exciting times ahead in Memphis as they gear up for the season!
