Karl Anthony-Towns Takes Charge in Chicago
The New York Knicks really had to grind it out to snag their 37th win of the season while visiting the United Center in Chicago. Maybe those late-night vibes from their trip back from Houston were still in their bones. But hey, that’s no excuse! They’ve got a deeper roster this year, and losing to a team like Chicago, which hasn’t exactly been a model of consistency, wasn’t on the agenda.
In the midst of it all, it was Karl Anthony-Towns who stepped up and took the reins. He scored 7 of the last 11 points for the Knicks, helping them clinch a 105-99 victory. Talk about clutch! Towns notched his 39th double-double of the season (leading the NBA, by the way) with a dazzling line of 28 points, 11 rebounds, and three steals.
“Our guys just figured out how to win,” said Mike Brown, always on the lookout for that silver lining, when chatting with the NY Post.
The Knicks came off a nail-biter win against the Rockets and needed this victory against the Bulls with a face-off against the Cavs and their new guy, James Harden, looming just around the corner. After a little shake-up in the standings, they climbed back into that sweet third spot in the Eastern Conference (with a record of 37-21) after the Cavs stumbled against the reigning champs. The race is tighter than ever, making their next game a must-watch!
“We’ve got a game at 8:30 PM, and then it’s back-to-back travel. Honestly, this schedule is outrageous for us. But I’m just glad we pulled off this win,” said Josh Hart while probably catching his breath.
The Knicks had a solid showing with five players scoring in double digits, dishing out 27 assists (that’s ten more than Chicago can manage) and hitting 37% from beyond the arc. On the other side, Yabusele had a bit of a revenge game against his former team, getting some much-deserved minutes and opportunities. After being out of the Knicks rotation, landing with the Bulls has given him a shot to shine again.
He dropped 9 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in just the first half, finishing strong with 11 points and 13 rebounds in 30 minutes of play. Other contributors for Chicago included Buzelis with 15 points, Okoro and Jalen Smith each chipping in with 12 points, and Patrick Williams adding another 10 points off the bench.
