James Feldeine Announces Retirement from Basketball at 38: A Heartfelt Farewell
In a bittersweet announcement, James Feldeine, the Dominican guard, has officially declared his retirement from basketball at the age of 38. After a remarkable professional career that spanned various countries, Feldeine left an indelible mark in Spain, where he played for teams such as Breogán, Fuenlabrada, and Real Betis.
Feldeine first made his way to Europe in 2010, starting with the Breogán. Just two years later, he took a giant leap into the Liga Endesa with Fuenlabrada. He later returned to Spain for a season with Betis. Throughout his time in the ACB, he appeared in 102 games and averaged an impressive 14.9 points per game.
A Grateful Goodbye
In his heartfelt farewell letter, Feldeine reflected on the significant role basketball has played in his life since his upbringing in Washington Heights, New York. He sent a powerful message to young athletes who might feel overlooked: persevere and chase your dreams.
“Thank you, basketball. I am officially retiring from the sport that has given me so much in this life. From the start, basketball has provided me with a joy that I couldn’t find in anything else. It became more than just a game; it was always my safe haven.
Growing up on the tough streets of Washington Heights, I never imagined all the places this sport would take me, the people I would meet, or the amazing experiences I would be fortunate enough to live. Basketball opened doors for me that surpassed anything I could ever dream of, and for that, I will always be grateful.
To everyone who has been part of my journey, thank you for your love and support throughout the years. Although my playing days are over, the memories, lessons, and love for basketball will stay with me forever. Thank you for everything.
And to all the boys and girls who feel overlooked: keep pushing forward, because I am living proof that you can tune out the noise and follow your dreams.”
